Here we are in the heart of winter. The time of the year our home becomes a retreat from the icy winds and rainy days. We appreciate our space more than ever, snuggling up in front of a fire with luxuriously soft throw.

Bring out the floor rugs with rich texture and earthy colours. Floor cushions are being pushed aside for the beanbag with a more structured shape and interesting covers.

Wallpaper is making a come back. I love the addition of pattern and texture and use it for feature walls or accessorise with cushion covers and lampshades.

Look for handmade things like hand painted vases, plates and cable knit throws. The presence of organic shapes and hand made things scattered amongst your latest pieces grounds your overall feel around your home and gives a sense of comfort and style.

Colours to look for this season, Grey is the new black. It goes with everything from cool whites to steely and cobalt blues, emerald and bamboo greens. Yellow is back but in a murky shade resembling mustard seeds and browns are richer, earthier tones than those of last season’s mochas. Throw in a mix of metallics, silver, gold, bronze and pewter to spice things up.
